Feb 14, 2008: Union candidate endorsements
by Chris Kraynak
As a member of CSEA Local 834, did you ever wonder how
a candidate receives the endorsement of the union? I
always did. I usually disagreed with the unions
choice, and I would complain to others in the union
about how we do not seem to have a voice in the
process. Then I was informed of the Local 834
Political Action Committee (PAC). I joined, and now I
am involved in the process of choosing candidates that
the local will endorse at election time.
If you are interested in politics and would like to
become involved, I encourage you to come to a meeting,
and take a look for yourself. There is no obligation
to join, but you can.
As co-chair of the Local PAC 834 (Chris Kraynak) along
with Michael Casler, our goal is to educate members of
Local 834 about politics and the election process. We,
as a committee, may not be able to answer all your
questions on politics or the election process. We will
try our best to get the correct information to our
members when they ask. Whether you know it or not,
politics play an important roll in contact
negotiations that do affect every member of the local
834.
One of our main goals is to help educate the
membership about their right to vote and the
importance of doing so in all elections. This year we
are going to try to present Information Days at
several locations for the membership. The objective
will be to educate members about registration, voting,
and other political related subjects. By doing so, the
Local 834 PAC hopes to be able to show members that
your voice matters and really needs to be heard.
As a member of Local 834, you should feel confident
that your concerns are being addressed. A good way to
accomplish this is to become active in the Local or
to allow the Local to inform you the best way we can.
If you think you are not ready or cannot commit time
to the Local 834 PAC right now, please take advantage
of our email sign-up (click here).
This way you will be informed of any news regarding
the local PAC activities, and you can also email
questions and concerns to us.
Please consider joining
us if this is something you think you may enjoy or
feel you can contribute to.
